Is your young person struggling to get to sleep at night?
This is a common problem which many of us must navigate. It is often because of imagined monsters in the bedroom.
I can recall struggling with this myself, ever fearful that monsters were going to bite or grab my feet when they stuck out the end of the bed …I was very tall at a young age so my feet sticking out was a constant issue for me, I had to curl up in my bed to avoid it from happening!
Reassuring your youngster that there are not any monsters in their bedroom can often fall on deaf ears. I find that telling them they are right…there ARE monsters in their bedroom BUT they have a friendly and very brave monster living under their own bed. Give him a name and encourage them to say good night and good morning to him daily. If they look under their bed, they may even catch a glimpse of him, but he doesn’t like the daylight so he will be difficult to spot. But a night he is the bravest of all monsters and beats up all that come anywhere near him. He is great at making the bedroom a monster free zone.
This can work really well. No arguments on whether monsters exist or not, just the reassurance that they have the best of the best on their side, and he is a friend with a name.
There are a myriad of other avenues to consider in addition. Many find a red light or perhaps green. Yellow or blue can help. Recordings of whales, rain, running water, waves etc. Some find a Tonies story box helpful.
